Pickleball Craze Hits Ocoee with Proposed 44-Court Complex

Ashley Pun 44winter Garden Fl Gs One Pager Massive Pickleball Facility Proposed Off Colonial Drive In Ocoee1

Pickleball’s popularity keeps spiking, and Ocoee is ready to join the game! A developer recently submitted plans for a massive pickleball complex boasting 44 courts, both indoor and outdoor.

The facility, planned for 1000 Jacob Nathan Blvd., would span 150,000 square feet across six acres. Imagine 20 courts nestled comfortably indoors, while the remaining 24 bask in the sunshine under a protective roof and cooling fans.

Pickleball enthusiasts can look forward to more than just playing. The complex will feature a spacious two-story pro shop and cafe (14,000 square feet!) for post-game socializing and gear needs.

Tournaments galore? You bet! The plans hint at a designated “championship” court, perfect for hosting major pickleball competitions. Plus, a “real-time technology” system is on the cards, keeping players informed about court availability and arrival times.

This project isn’t built on a whim. The developer, Vasant Sports LLC, understands the pickleball passion. They even filed a trademark last year for a pickleball app called “Pickleball Connection.”

The proposal has already passed the Ocoee Development Review Committee and heads to the Planning & Zoning Commission next. One hurdle to clear? Parking. While staff recommended approval, they requested the developer provide more parking spaces to meet industry standards.

If all goes well, Ocoee will join the growing list of Orlando-area pickleball havens. This surge in private investment reflects the sport’s phenomenal growth. The Association of Pickleball Professionals reports that a whopping 19% of American adults dabbled in pickleball last year, making it the fastest-growing sport for five years running!

This trend isn’t just about Ocoee. GrowthSpotter previously reported on The Pickleball Club’s expansion plans, including an Orlando location with 14 courts. Meanwhile, a new 19,000 square-foot facility in SoDo will house the Orlando Squeeze, a pro pickleball team, and offer eight courts with a restaurant and bar.

Even municipalities are catching the wave. Winter Springs is gearing up to open a 14-court complex.

Get ready, Ocoee! The pickleball revolution is here, and it’s bringing its paddles, sunscreen, and competitive spirit.
