Groveland Square, a mixed-use development in Groveland, Florida, is expanding by 40%. Developer Ike Cottle has acquired an additional 44 acres of land for the project, which will now include a grocery-anchored shopping center, a variety of residential options, and a multi-use trail system.
The original 117-acre development is located at the southeast corner of U.S. 27 and State Road 19, about 30-35 minutes west of downtown Orlando. The expansion will add land on the west side of the project, which is currently vacant.
The grocery-anchored shopping center will be about 20 acres and up to 180,000 square feet. Green Slate is in talks with various grocery store chains about becoming the main tenant. The residential component will include 324 apartments, 196 build-to-rent cottages, 101 townhomes, and 72 single-family homes.
The entire development is designed to be walkable, with a multi-use trail system that will connect the residential areas to the commercial center. The project is strategically located near the Florida Turnpike, making it a convenient commute for residents who work in Orlando.
Green Slate is working with a number of partners to bring the project to life, including Alliance Residential Company, NexMetro Communities, and Meritage Homes. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
The expansion of Groveland Square is a significant investment in the community and will provide much-needed housing and retail space. The project is also expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and operation.
